Most of the states are members to the Interstate Driver License Compact. This Compact will automatically report all moving violations, even those that do not involve drunk driving, or driving on the revoked. The MVS is required to assess points when out-of-state moving violations are reported.

The MVS will assess two points for each out of-state violation. The two points are the cap of the points that can be assessed. For example, in New Jersey a speeding ticket of driving 30 m.p.h. over the speed limit, will give a driver five points. However, if this same type of speeding ticket occurs out of state, then a New Jersey driver will only receive two points.
